Creating a particle animation shouldn’t be too complex, since there are lots of generators and pre-made templates to help you. Simply check out the list below and if there are any backgrounds you’d like to add, just copy the template to add it to your site, and it’s ready to go! Let’s get started!
1. Particles With Gradient Background
The first background we’ll be taking a look at features particles with a beautiful gradient backdrop, as shown in the image below! The particles flicker in and out of view, creating a stunning effect overall. You could also create different variations by updating the gradient too, for instance, you could swap the light blue color for a light green instead, in order to create a blue-green gradient! This animation is available as part of Isotope UI’s background pack, which is linked below!
2. Vanta.js Constellations
Vanta.js is an amazing library with a variety of templates you can add to your projects. The first background I’d like to take a look at consists of a constellation animation, featuring glorious line-linked particles! You can customize the templates and then add these to your site quite quickly. All you need to do is install the library and then follow the instructions provided in the documentation, and you’ll be set up before you know it! You’ll see an example of one of the background you can make with the library below, it looks amazing!
Two Great Sources of Particle Backgrounds
There are lots of great sites online that have an excellent variety of templates that you can use on your sites. I’ve discovered two great resources for you which have a range of particle backgrounds.
Vanta.js
Vanta.js is a fantastic library with a great variety of templates for you to take a look at, including line-linked constellations, clouds, waves and so much more! Be sure to take a look at the official site which has all the interactive demos and examples you can try out and customize!
Isotope UI
Isotope UI also has a background pack of over 100 backgrounds, including particle backgrounds. The first two animations in this list are from this pack! If you build websites and would like to have a great library of backgrounds to choose from for your projects, then this would be a fantastic resource for you. I’ve been using lots of the backgrounds for my own websites, and love taking a look through the library to find a background that matches the visual aesthetic I’m looking for. There are mesh gradients, particle effects and so much more!
3. Rising Bubbles
The next animation we’re going to take a look at features lovely rising bubbles that would look stunning in any project! This could be used for so many contexts, including landing pages! Particles can also help boost the time spent by users on-site, and can be particularly useful for landing pages. You could also add an SVG wave to this background for a fun page divider effect.
4. Moving Shapes
The next background we’re going to take a look at features a series of moving shapes. Isotope UI This background is created using Particles.js and is one of the demos available on the official site. The configuration tool on the right-hand side, in the upper corner, can be used to customize and adjust the various values for the appearance of the animation. For instance, you can change the background color or the speed of the particles’ movement. You can also export the configuration file once you’d like to make use of the background in your own project.
5. Vanta.js Flock
Another background I’d recommend from Vanta.js consists of a flock of flying birds! There are lots of stunning animations to choose from, and in this guide, I’ve chosen two of my favourites! The first I’d like to take a look at is an animation of flying birds, as shown in the image below. The animations are very smooth and seamless overall, and I’d definitely recommend taking a look at this library for some stunning animations to add to your site!
6. Animated Constellations
This background features a series of line-linked particles with primary colors. It’s such a cool animation, I must say! You could use this in a variety of pages and for different use cases, including signup screens and login forms. It’s part of Isotope UI’s background pack, and another template with different colors is also available as part of the pack too.
7. Constellations
Another cool demo available on the Particles.js official site features stunning line-linked particles which overall create a constellation animation effect! It’s quite a popular background choice, and it would be a great option for landing pages and so much more! You could create variations of this by updating the background color or the particle color too. There are so many possibilities you could create! For example, adding a gradient background is also possible too. I’d also recommend trying out different gradient backgrounds also. If you’re looking for more gradient inspiration, I would recommend my guide to gradient tools, in order to help create cool gradients for website backgrounds.
8. Snow Effect
This festive, wintery animation effect would be a cool addition to a site! It’s available as one of the demos on the Particles.js official website. The animation has a dark blue background color, but you can also update the color using the configuration tool on the right-hand side.
